Abstract

Indonesia is a country with rich natural resources, accounting 16,056 islands spread widely from Sabang to Merauke (Hananto, 2017). The number of islands and also the sea that surrounds the nature is so abundant that it is countless. Such as abundant mining products, endless marine products and agricultural products such as coconut oil, rice, tea and others. Not only that, Indonesia's other natural wealth is wild animals that are in each province. According to Masy'ud & Ginoga in the book Wildlife Exitus Conservation, it is stated that Indonesia is a country that is categorized as a “Mega-Biodiversity Country” which means that Indonesia's biodiversity, especially wildlife, is among the highest in the world. However, over time animal species are decreasing this is caused by natural factors such as earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and others. In addition to natural factors, human activities can also play a role in environmental changes that have negative impacts (Pranata & Streit, 2014). According to Chaerina in Hasan (2021), states that one of the factors causing damage to nature is human activity itself. Such as mass development in the forest, lack of knowledge about ecology and bad attitudes and habits towards nature. In this illustration book design research the author uses a qualitative method approach. According to Cresswell (in Pratiwi, 2019: 47) a qualitative approach is a research and understanding process based on a methodology that investigates a human problem or social phenomenon and is included in research that has a descriptive nature. Based on the results of the analysis, endangered animals in Indonesia continue to decrease every year. One of the causes is because of human activities that carry out hunting, illegal trade, illegal logging and others that cause animals to be threatened with extinction because their habitat is destroyed. Lack of care for the environment that makes them continue to do this. For this reason, there is a need for educational media for children about Indonesia's rare animals. So that they have a positive character of caring for the environment that will be carried into adulthood. The design of this book about the introduction of Indonesian endangered animals for children aged 7-9 years has something that the author has not been able to perfect, namely the script or story content that is still not well formed.
