Abstract
Literature for children is primarily aimed at educating children. This is highly relevant in folktales. This paper discusses the representation of women in Indonesian folktales, and its opportunities to thrive in a global setting. Despite the similarities of women’s depiction between Indonesian folktales and other folktales worldwide, steps must be taken to introduce and promote Indonesian folktales that depict a more positive image of women.
