Abstract

A folktale must not be a dead and dormant narrative. Being a text that posseses power in the education of children, and in shaping them to approved behaviour, a folktale must develop with time. As values in society alter and shift, folktales that carry values or principles that are not believed anymore or that do not carry constructive values. These tales have to be rewritten and reconstructed in order to be able to transmit contructive values to child readers, for a better generation.
