Abstract

In the family relationship between mother and child and especially towards teenage girls, of course there will be differences of opinion which can be caused by several factors such as age and also generation. Therefore this study aims to see how the types of conflict and conflict management of mothers and daughters through content analysis in the film Turning Red. The conflict that occurs in the film Turning Red is shown through the characters Mei-Mei, Ming Lee, and Wu who have blood ties as mother and daughter. There are two types of conflict shown, namely perpetual conflict which is defined as a long-term conflict that occurs because of problems that occurred in the past and have not been resolved, there are also solveable conflicts or problems that are easily resolved because of experience as parents. The characters of Ming Lee, Mei-Mei and Wu also have a way of conveying conflict which is mostly carried out openly or overt conflict, but there are also several ways of conveying conflict that are carried out hiddenly or are called covert conflicts due to problems with the cultural background of children and parents. However, behind all the conflicts that occur the characters Mei-Mei, Ming Lee, and Wu are also still trying to resolve the conflicts that occur by learning from past conflicts that still occur and trying to understand each other and collaborate with one another as family members.
